How We Do It
Overview
The FIC is the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Government of the Republic of Namibia, established in terms of the Financial Intelligence Act and statutorily mandated to assist with combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
Legislation
The various laws and standards aimed at combating money laundering and terrorist financing are being continually updated on international and local levels to respond to the evolving threats posed by criminals and terrorists.
Guidance
The Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit is the national central agency in Malta that is responsible for the collection, collation, processing, analysis and dissemination of information to combat money laundering and the funding of terrorism.
Publications & Consultations
From time to time, the FIC carries out consultation exercises to obtain feedback on proposed laws and amendments, implementing procedures and other guidance notes.
National Analysis
The Financial Intelligence and Analysis Division’s core function is to receive and analyse data and provide actionable intelligence to competent authorities to assist them with combating ML/ TF/PF activities. In addition, the Division handles requests for information from foreign FIUs and competent authorities.
Partnerships
Effective public-private partnerships constitute a key and critical aspect in the global fight against money laundering and terrorism financing, as the prevention and detection of potential ML/TF cases is significantly dependent on the private sector’s implementation of effective AML/CFT programmes.
“Our new Strategic Plan 2025-2028 outlines a clear vision and practical goals to enhance the FIC’s ability to combat money laundering, terrorism financing, proliferation financing, and other ilicit financial activities, and aims to foster a high-performance culture by focusing on FIC staff development, succession planning, and the improvement of institutional capacity.”
